Anyone got experience with premium back account travel insurance and pre-existing conditions?

Try Nationwide Flexplus, If you have to open the account first I don't think you pay the fee until the end of the month.1

Best bet is to call bank explain & they will pass you to the ins co that the policy is with...
banks do not underwrite these policies.Life in the slow lane0 -
Nationwide switched to Aviva last year. They are MASSIVELY less obliging than the previous company used. Last year they accepted our declarations from previous year (extra £250, fee had risen), but this year it was an absolute NO. Won't cover me for any declarations at all, only for 'trip' based trivia (lost luggage etc) or new illness/medical problem while I'm away (break a leg, run over by a bus).
Same with a friend with COPD, NO this year. I think last year renewal allowed was the 'honeymoon period' Aviva via N/W. NOW they're doing more what they would do if you booked directly with them, A WHOLE LOT PICKIER!
A lot of the info on this page is from 2023, so may no longer be accurate. I looked at Lloyd Premier a/c, all the 'no need to declare' are still there, pretty impressive. BUT it also advises customers to contact the insurer to check if non-listed declarations would be accepted at extra charge..
When I went to the site it states something along the lines that they're currently not offering additional declarations, temporarily suspended. Only cover already accepted before 25 Sept 2025 will still be covered.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.2 -
@SevenOfNine that's useful to know for the future, like you I had no issues renewing my medical extensions last year and the overall cost actually came down. This year as we are not intending travelling outside the UK for a few years I downgraded our Flexplus account and took a UK/Channel Islands only annual travel policy with Avanti (not Aviva) at a reasonable price on one of their periodic discount offers.1

Had years of problems getting travel insurance with existing health issues. Many refused cover at all, then I found co-op bank packaged account who charged a premium for some health issues but affordable. Now they too are refusing cover for my health problems. BUT, they still offer cover for everything else, just exclude these particular diagnoses. I can make my own decision about my individual risk knowing most events are covered. Its £18 pm including breakdown and gadget cover and includes me and my husband. He has had to pay a £90 premium for high BP & cholesterol. As a comparison, a recent quote from an insurer direct was £4500 and most were a flat refusal giving no cover for anything else.
Someone also asked about making a claim. We had to cancel a holiday because husband had suspect DVT. They paid up without issues, although it took a while. Unfortunately, their max is £5k per person per trip so if youre treating yourself this might not be enough. Also, you need to be 79 or under.
