Why are EDF charging me 73p per day when my  gas boiler has been turned off since the middle of May.  They are charging me £26 per month when I have used no gas at all?  My standing charge
is £29p per day.  I have asked for an explanation but have got nowhere!!!

This question would probably be better posted in the Energy section.  But that is the nature of a standing charge - it's supposed to cover the cost of the equipment, distribution network, etc., and is a fixed amount irrespective of the amount of fuel you use.

What are you actually being charged?  73p per day sounds about right, though that doesn't equate to either £26 per month or £29 per day.
As a slight aside, most suppliers offer 2 tariffs - a high standing charge but a low unit rate for energy (good if you use a lot of energy), or a low standing charge but a higher unit rate.  If you use very little fuel over the course of a year, it can be beneficial to opt to the lower standing charge with a higher unit rate.

My EDF SC is 29.11p.   (£0.9475 inc VAT)    OP what is your tariff. ?

OP I presume you want gas to be instantly available when you want to switch that boiler on again.

PS I have asked MSE to move to Energy

You are charged a standing charge whether your boiler is on or not, it is based on having a connection to the grid/network. You will be charged a standing charge for your gas and electricity connection, on the basis of that cost 73p would likely be the combined cost of the gas and electricity standing charges.
