Hi all,
I’ve come across a very recent identity check and insurance quotation (soft search) by this company today.
I’ve come across a very recent identity check and insurance quotation (soft search) by this company today.
I don’t have any home or care insurance as I don’t drive and live with family. I’m not sure why they would have carried out any such searches.
anyone got any ideas? I have read it can be price comparison sites, but I haven’t used any insurance comparisons for the reasons above. Getting in touch with this company is impossible as they appear to be American.
thank you all ☺️

It's possible that the category of "Identity check and insurance quotation" is a generic name, and it was in fact just an identity check. Have you applied for any form of credit at all (a typical example being a new mobile phone contract)? But it's nothing much to worry about - a soft search is only visible to you, and will have no impact whatsoever on your credit history. If it was a hard search that you didn't recognise, that would be more concerning.1

I applied for a credit card recently and was accepted, but I’ve checked with that provider and they don’t recognise the name of this company, so I doubt it was them, and it was also a month ago I applied so would be a bit late.0 -

Whilst the fact that it's a soft search is nothing to worry about, it sounds like they are searches related to insurance quotes (when a LexisNexis search is done the ID check and quote search appear together). If you've never searched for insurance, then it could be a sign your details are being used to obtain searches and possibly fraudulent insurance through Ghost Broking.
I would keep an eye on all of your credit reports for any more of these appearing, I've had my ID stolen and had nearly a hundred appear across my credit files. Although one probably isn't anything to worry about as I would get a lot all appear together.
It's been a nightmare contacting all of the insurers to try and find out if a policy was taken out and unfortunately, you're correct about contacting LexisNexis. They are not insurers, only a middle man and although they do have a UK website https://uk-insurance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/79 (which has now been down for a while), it only tells you to contact the Credit Reference Agencies to find out who told them to search your CR. I tried submitting a SAR to TransUnion but they just gave me a list of searches with LexisNexis again.

I had this too, I think it's just a generic on whatever site you used to look at your report. It's a soft so no worries :-)Old enough to know better...........0

I've had several soft searches by LexisNexis - 2 searches (1 insurance & 1 ID check) in Jul, Aug, Oct & Nov 23.
I don't drive & my last quote via Compare The Market was back in Mar 20 for travel insurance. I've not used any other comparison sites. My home insurance is due in Feb (no soft searches in Jan or Feb) & I haggled with the same insurer over the phone for the last 2 renewals.
I've not applied for any credit cards or loans in years, last bank account switch was almost a year ago.
Everything else in my credit report is fine. I've emailed Creidit Karma who will get back to me at 'some point'.
Anyone have any ideas about what may be happening? Thanks.0
