Self assessment unexpected charge

Hi all, I paid my self assessment tax on time last year. I paid it over Dec and Jan (clicking other amount) and paid the final amount on 23rd Jan 2023. On this occasion I clicked on the button that says pay full amount. WhenI paid the last payment. It told me that my balance was zero.
I've just gone into my tax account to pay my 2nd payment on account by 31st July and two things have surprised me. Firstly a charge of £200.50 which was applied to my account on 31st January (which they have now added £6.30 interest) and I knew nothing about it until today. Secondly the amount of tax I was due to pay by 31st July has gone up by £200.51. I had put aside the exact amount they had previously asked for and now it's changed.
So now I have to find an additional £407.31 which I don't have.
How can they add more tax on after you have cleared your account in January and how can they change the July payment weeks before it is due?
Is this a mistake and can I question it? Many thanks.

Yes, it could be a mistake and yes, you should query it.1

If you call them, it is best to phone just as the lines open at 08.00, as you should have a shorter wait than later in the day.0

I think you should be able to check the original and amended Self Assessment calculation on your online account.
That will give you a good idea of where the difference has arisen.0 -
From what you say it is the payments on account that have been increased by £200 each.
What were you original figures for you total charge for last year and what were the payments on account shown as?
What are the amounts being shown for the payments on account now?
