I got a similar letter today, about a Northern Rock mortgage which they say I took out in November 2005. My husband had already purchased the property 5 years before, with no mortgage, so I was rather puzzled about this, especially as I have never had any dealings with Northern Rock. I was considering contacting the company to query the details but obviously know I am not eligible for any compensation. Having read comments from other people on this site, I have decided to just ignore their letter.1

I am in the process of making a complaint to the Financial Conduct Authority and the ICO about these letters. They are speculative, and when asked they won't tell you where the data came from. Perhaps there is something that we all have in common? More than one complaint would always be welcome as we'll have more of an idea on where this has come from.1
