Boost Energy claiming standing charges (account closed in 2019!)

Boost Energy account was closed in 2019. They’ve sent my daughter - who already has severe anxiety & ADHD amongst other things - a bill for ££hundreds mostly in standing charges, for energy supply up to the present. She has no documentation for the exact date the account closed, and has been with a few different suppliers since. Boost tried this a couple of years ago and dropped it after she challenged them so she rang again. First calltaker talked over her, couldn’t/wouldn’t access last time’s correspondence or anything to do with her account and kept demanding the exact closing date of their own account which they already agreed two years ago had been closed in 2019. Call closed with ‘we’ll get back to you within 30 days’. Today’s email says they’re ‘having difficulty reading your smart meter’ (!) and please contact. Today’s calltaker repeated the same script about needing the exact date the account closed then at 5.55 cut her off. She is terrified it’s going to go to a debt collector as she’s seen reports of people getting CCJs for similar supplier errors. What - or who - has anyone else used to resolve this? her mental health is fragile anyway and this is so stressful. Many thanks.

They have an app does she have her login details to retrieve her statements? Her details will likely be on email somewhere.
I would put a written complaint in and request all bills (including the closing bill) for the account reference as part of your (daughters) complaint if she doesn't already have them.
Does she have the email confirming the switch taking place and leaving boost etc.
Include the correspondence from a few years ago.

To whom? When a supplier goes bust, an administrator is appointed. Boost Energy was finally dissolved as a company on the 12th April 2022.
I suggest that in the first instance the OP contacts the appointed SoLR for advice.

Thanks for the suggestion of SoLR, this does look like only next step. She did refer them to, and ask for copies of, previous correspondence/statements etc to no avail so far.0

If it does end up with a debt collector (which I doubt) then I suggest that she either makes an appointment with Citizens Advice or she sends a ‘prove it’ letter. There are a number of templates for this on sites like Which. The ‘debt collector’ has then to provide evidence in support of its claim.gordonbush said:Thanks for the suggestion of SoLR, this does look like only next step.
