New hotmail email address

I have a hotmail account set up but need to change my address as I’m getting around 60 spam emails a day and some are really inappropriate for an iPad I share with my kids!
As I understand it, I have two options - create a brand new address and close my old one (trouble is I have Microsoft Word etc linked to my old account)
or
create an additional alias email address on my existing account (but I’m unsure if I can then delete my old email address or if that means I will have emails to both addresses coming into my inbox).
Can anyone advise please? I just want to stop using my original email address but I don’t think Outlook will allow me to change it.

Open an account with gmail, they have far better spam filters than hotmail. Keep the old hotmail account but only open it occasionally to check if there's anything you need to see, when the kids aren't around.

I'd also recommend Gmail.

Can you not change the email associated with your Microsoft products? When getting a new email if you avoid the firstnamesecondname@emailprovider.co.uk that helps cut down SPAM. You can use your name and add a number at some point into it which helps as well.Gmail is generally good at filtering SPAM and my word I got a lot in the early days of COVID. I was getting about a hundred a day. Now, maybe four a week.Never had any SPAM on my Apple account.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0

I would create a new email, change the details for MS stuff and anything else and just ignore the original address but keep it as it might be useful oneday.
