Potential Pothole Damage

Hit a very big pothole recently, as it's appearance was concealed by rain. It's instantly been accompanied by suspension noise that I didn't previously have. A lot of garage round me are booked up over the next few weeks, and earliest I can get seen is Aug 11th.
I will notify the council of the pothole, but am I then able to submit a speculative claim once I've had a report back from the mechanics?
The road I drive to work on is full of craters, I've reported some before, but as I'm sure with a lot of areas across the UK, they haven't been repaired.

Don't waste your time on a pothole claim.
They are very rarely successful.
Unfortunately.

OP, i'd disagree with the above. It's worth spending a bit of time putting in a claim but just don't expect it to succeed.1

If you do put in a claim don't forget to tell your insurance company.
Then you will have a no fault claim on your insurance.

Thanks for the input people.
