deposit at post offices are they delayed due to xmas post

Options
hi,
i deposited some cheques at my post office the other day. but they still have not been received by my bank which is lloyds.

i dont know how the post office sysyem works do they post your cheques off to your bank which could lead them to being delayed in the madness of the christmas post.

i have spoke to the bank who say go to the post office, and the staff on the phone had no idea of how the post office deposit system worked so no help really.
i really wanted some reassurance from them that my cheques were prob on their way not lost, but they couldn;t help.
i was hoping somebody on this forum maybe knew or having similar probs.
many thanks

If you put them in a deposit envelope - they go to your Bank, and could be delayed in the post.

Otherwise they process them through their own system (used to be at the Barbican) - which still means the post is used, but via priority deliveries which means they aren't delayed in sorting offices. Then they go into cheque Clearing and on to your Bank.

Doesn't help now - but it's a bit unwise to use any intermediary system at this time of year, if you need the funds. Better direct into your own Bank(s) .. assuming they've got Branches.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • They use a courier service - each PO sends to a central address then sent on to a bank's service centre.
Should take no more than 3 working days.
