Why can’t I send money to someone with NatWest Adapt account?

Hi,

My 11 year old son has a NatWest Adapt account. He’s been saving up to buy something which he now has enough for and we’ve ordered it online for him. He wants to transfer the money to us now but he doesnt seem to be able to.

The NatWest guidance talks about setting up the payee in the Accounts section of the app but there is no option for this.

Is this a limitation of this type of app or a temporary glitch does anyone know

Cheers

Rich

Can he not do it on the web version instead?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    According to this
Manage my Adapt Account | Existing Customers | NatWest
you have to be over 16 to make a one-off payment from that type of account using the app.

tell him to try via online banking instead.....

I don’t know about NatWest, but with Barclays version of a young persons account, the barclayplus, you are unable to set up new payees in their app either having that account. Maybe it’s a restriction because of their age.

I am not sure about this particular account but my eldest son (now 14) has had the RBS Revolve account since he was 11, alongside similar 11+ child current account with Barclays, Santander and HSBC. With the latter two is allowed to set up payee and make online transfer. But with Barclays and RBS he cannot do so. With RBS he can set up a request for payment that he send to himself and then use the Barclays debit card to complete the payment.

I suspect he'll have to if that's the only option. I'll give it a go with him later.

Ah thanks, I didn't spot this when I was trying to navigate the various guides on the mobile app.

Finally got around to trying using online banking and unfortunately it's not possible at all from this sort of account:

"Unfortunately - this option is not available to you.

This is because it is not appropriate to your particular account on-line, or does not apply to customers under 16 years."

I'll get him to withdraw the cash instead...

I had a similar request from NatWest Adapt and this is a reason I didn't get this account for my son - there's no ability to make electronic transfers until they're 16. You can only pay in and that can only be spent on a debit card or direct debit. This is the first current account I've come across with this.
