Tenth Anniversary Combo Breaker Name Dropper First Post
Hi there
i am dual fuel customer of British gas
Can anyone advise me on the following i have a faulty electric Key Meter called up British Gas booked an Engineer visit the next day i get a text on my phone saying thank you for booking your smart meter install but i have not requested one is this correct process ?
then maybe 3 days later i get 2 smart cards in the post for 2 smart meters again never asked for smart meters
so i called them up they told me if they cant fix the meter they will replace with a smart meter which is fair enough
now there saying they need to change both meters gas & Electric as the meters comes in pairs is this true and do i need to let them change both?

It is not strictly necessary to change change the gas meter, although if that was faulty you would have to have both changed because the gas meter piggy backs off the coms hub on the electric meter.

Having said that, you seem happy to have the electric meter changed out, so why the objection to the gas meter which will have to be changed out at some point in the future anyway.

If your meter is faulty then it is deemed to be end-of-life. Suppliers now have Government approval to a fit a smart meter in these circumstances WITHOUT the consumer’s approval. In my view, it is best to have both meters changed to smart at the same time.

I've just posted on the other thread that this has been mentioned on - as the OP is with British Gas and on E7, will a change to a smart meter give  them problems, or does that only apply to credit rather than prepay meters?

The most recent suggestions have been that this problem has been fixed - but I'm not sure whether there is any great weight of evidence to confirm that.

The  OP says that they are on dual fuel  no mention of E7 which would be unlikely for. Gas customer.
