Cancel credit cards at the same time?

The OP could ask the credit card companies that the card was closed at the customer's request. Closing them removes the temptation, especially if you know you might not trust yourself.Marchitiello said:I would close the cards as you originally planned. It may have a small impact right when you do it but after some time it will normalise, and potentially what you have left open will increase your credit limit. However, unless it was one of those credit building card, I would select the card you have had the longest rather the one with the lowest APR, or to keep that open as well alongside the two you have selected, maybe reducing the limit to an amount that won’t tempt you to go indo debt again
Closing now will have an impact now, but it's short lived, and if aiming to buy a house when your loan is paid off in 5 years, closing now won't have an impact then, and it will show you have less exposure (less available credit to suddenly splurge on).1 -
I've just closed 3 Amex cards in one go. I transferred the maximum credit limits I could to my Amex BA Avios, leaving the minimum of £700 that's allowed per card on the ones I no longer wanted or needed. I will probably see a hit to my "score" as a result but like others say, will be shortlived and I'm not planning on any big applications anytime soon.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.1 -
I’ve closed the 4 off now. No more temptation to spend on them. As mentioned above no imminent credit applications to make so no worries about any credit rating impacts. Just better to feel more in control but still a long way to go to get the loan paid off but end is in sight.3
