As per the title -
How best to transfer files from one laptop to a new one if you have no cloud or external HD?
Also favourites and what not from firefox?
Also I assume I'll have to download all my apps etc again as well?
Thanks guys

Lots of files?USB stick, Dropbox ,Mega or similarYou can create a Firefox account and when you log in on any device all the bookmarks etc will be there.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1

You can get a cable that plugs into the USB slots of each laptop for file transfer although I think it's easier to get cloud storage and use that.
For Firefox if you are logged in and favourites are saved under your profile you will have them when you sign in on the new device.
What kind of laptop or device do you have as you talk about apps? Generally you can back up whole devices so when you sign in again on a new device everything is there. Might be worth asking Google or YouTube using your device details as a search term.1 -
The simplest file transfer solution is to use whatever external storage solution you currently use for backups, and if you're not doing backups then this is the perfect opportunity to buy an external drive (and preferably two so you have multiple backups).

External HDD or even large capacity USB drives are cheap as chips - makes sense to have at least one back up anyway nowadays. 100gb of cloud storage - Google drive/dropbox is cheap too2

I posted these links on another thread here about a fortnight ago:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Patriot-Memory-P210-256GB-P210S256G25/dp/B087K9L3R5/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/EasyULT-2-5-Inch-External-Enclosure-Tool-Free/dp/B08D7FPXH9/
(I have both those myself, I like that particular enclosure and have a couple of them with different sized drives in).For transfering files from one machine to another that would be a good option for you, and currently only about £20.
You then have a decent external drive for backup or whatever.I'm well aware that finding even £20 can sometimes be an issue, but it's worth it to have a decent external drive to use.

There are ways to make it easier. For file transfer, I’ve found that using services like Filemail can be very effective. With Filemail, you can send large files (up to 5GB for free), and they offer secure transfer options like encryption and password protection, which is reassuring for sensitive data. As for Firefox favorites, you can easily export bookmarks as an HTML file and then import them on your new laptop. And yes, when it comes to apps, you’ll generally need to reinstall them, but if you keep a list of what you need, it speeds up the process. This approach can help save time and keep everything organized for a smoother transition.-2
