I run kit using a mix of Windows 10 and Windows 11.  I have been using Norton Antivirus for years, but is it really necessary now or is the software provided in 10 and 11 generally sufficient?

Use the Microsoft anti-virus and just run regular malware checks with the likes of the free version of malwarebytes.

No need to pay for AV for non-corporate use these days.

Ditch Norton.  The Built in Windows Defender has been good enough for years.

Thanks for the advice.  I've been using PCs since Windows 3.1 and general security was non-existent.  I'll save myself a few quid each year now.

Microsoft Defender alert said my PC had two identical items of malware "Trojan:PDF/Phish!MSR", threat level Severe, etc, according to the timestamp both downloaded while I happened to be logged onto Ebay. Online search says: "This threat is a .pdf file with a malformed hyperlink to phishing websites or other malicious sites. It usually arrives as attachment to spammed email messages." Microsoft Defender didn't stop them, has removed one, but struggling to delete the other.  I have disconnected my PC from the web, this message via my laptop, which is "clean".
