General advice; don't ask directly, don't expect anything.
Ask about the upgrade costs politely mentioning your honeymoon and you may be lucky. At a minimum you may get an upgraded drink, at best you may get a better seat, likely at a discounted price rather than for free.
Nothing is more annoying to businesses, especially low margin ones, than people demanding things for free and from me it's a definite no when someone is pushy..💙💛 💔0 -
Emirates are well known for offering no upgrades, even to their own staff so I wouldn't get your hopes up at all.2

I would imagine that on each and every B777/A380 flight they operate that there are multiple people celebrating a life event who would like a special treatment upgrade. Birthday, wedding anniversary, special holiday or a honeymoon. I wouldn’t hold out hope for a free upgrade. The cabin crew ‘might’ bring the honeymooners a couple of glasses of fizzy wine - or they might just congratulate you.
Why not buy the upgrade and surprise your new partner?3 -
Yup, as above. The best way to get an upgrade is to pay for it.0

Or spend the money on something that'll add real value rather than a nicer seat for a few hours. That's what we did, we looked at the cost of first class (didn't even consider business, we weren't travelling on business), but it was totally ridiculous. Instead for about the same money we had an extra week of honeymoon and a side trip to Hawaii!Didn't get a free flight upgrade but did get a free bottle of champagne and an invite to the cockpit (you won't get the latter these days...).It is a good idea to tell everyone it's your honeymoon, sometimes you'll get upgrades & freebies, sometimes you won't, but mentioning it doesn't cost anything and you'll at least get lots of congratulations and good wishes. We had a few room upgrades and bottles of bubbly.PS congratulations and best wishes!0

Buy the class you want to fly... have a look as time goes by on the options for upgrading, occasionally there are bargains0 -
I've had several free upgrades with Emirates over the years due to status in Skywards, their frequent flyer program. However, in general, the upgrading selection process is run centrally and your outstation will have little or no influence over it. The selection process now takes into account booking class (more expensive = greater chance) but only kicks in when the flight is oversold. They used to offer complimentary cakes (for birthdays) and maybe even champagne in Economy for something and although those are still available they come at a price nowdays0

My husband works for a major airline (not Emirates), we can't even get access to the lounge when we've travelled and paid full price! It's worth a mention that it's your honeymoon, you never know, but don't go expecting to be upgraded. As an aide, have an amazing honeymoon.0

On some Emirates routes (Maldives, Seychelles etc) it's a fair bet that a good percentage of the passengers are on honeymoon so they are unlikely to upgrade anyone who isn't a high status frequent flyer (and most high status FF will be in the premium cabins anyway)
The best I've managed was a pass for fast track security when the check-in agent noticed that it was my birthday.
Certainly worth looking at paying for lounge access as a treat. Or maybe even put it on your wedding present list. More fun than a toaster.0
