Hello

i am wondering if anyone can help I am currently in a relationship and we are considering moving in together

we are looking at how this will affect our finances I currently work full time more or less on minimum wage 21,500 a year as a single person I also current get around £35 a week in working tax credits

i understand as a couple this will end my partner doesn’t work at all and is currently on UC when I fill in a benefit calculator we are entitled to nothing

so am I correct in thinking should we need to make a joint claim I would be expected to support us both with my wage?

Obviously my partner needs to get a job but this isn’t going to be an instant thing

Yes your tax credits will end because you can't make a new claim as couple.

Your partner will need to report a change of circumstances and then report that you've moved in with them. They will then be sent a linking code. You will then need to make a claim yourself and use the linking code to join both claims together.

As a couple living together entitlement will be based on your joint circumstances. If you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.

If there's no entitlement then yes you will need to support your partner because you will be a couple.
