we went to The Gambia a while ago now, I had some 75% Deet, I don't remember washing it off for bed, but it did "melt" the straps on my sandals a bit as I put loads round my ankles where I usually get bitten, it's pretty harsh! I also tried the Avon skin soft in Greece a couple of years ago, it didn't work for me, I had more bites than ever but they weren't mosquitos, smaller more Scottish midgie size critters. We also sleep with a plug in tablet thing.

I mentioned the Citronella - used before the chemical stuff was sold and the locals in the Amazon recommended lemons :)

The pharmacist said that they always used soluable Mint chrystals in a room. There wasn't any left when I went in. I found some locals used it in Egypt.

Also Boots  do suncream with an added insect repellent. Great idea. One price, one product to carry, one to remember to put on.     :)

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Can anyone remember the spiral mozzie repellants that restaurants used to put under the table and light?

I think your talking about  mosquito coils most country's we go to sell them if we have any external doors or balconies I use them there. I make sure to use them early evening and use plug in's in the room. I also use a mosquito repellant lotion from Thailand you can buy it at Amazon its smells like body lotion its a very light lotion and not sticky
  • Following on from my previous comment, Daughter is now home after using lifesystems max deet. 2 weeks in Malaysia walking through jungles and rainforests. She was bit 7 times (that she noticed)

In countries such as Thailand, Malaysia etc, you will find products containing DEET in sufficient strength, such as Autan lotion, in any local pharmacy or convenience store at a small fraction of prices charged in UK for fancy names and packaging.
