Just to add to the discussion - I recently applied for their new Issue 36 savings account and have now been asked to provide verification of this account by 1. providing a bank statement (not internet printed) 2. providing scan of my debit card, 3. a blank cheque and 4. a pre-printed paying in slip bearing my name. Ok, so by contacting my bank I can order a cheque book and statement of account which will take up to 10 days to arrive!  Of course, I can provide details of my debit card.
Problem is, like many other financial institutions now, they do not provide printed paying in slips!   Shawbrook have stated they will close my account if the required verifications are not received within 14 days!   I have asked for advice from Shawbrook!
I note that they are quick enough to accept credits to the new account once opened, before seeking the verifications of the nominated account - so , I cant access any funds until this is settled.
NB   I have had also his problem with Aldemore Bank previously!
Surely they want one of those for items rather than all of them?!! I did get a paying in book after opening an Ulster Bank account recently, but that's the first time in a couple of decades I've seen one.

They only need one of these and open banking is their preferred method.
  • My experience with Shawbrook is very similar to Dingers below.
Could not find any easy way to withdraw funds on website, phoned up on a Monday, asked to close instant access savings account. Went through security checks advised that account would be closed. And I would receive funds on Wednesday to my designated Barclays account.
Late on Wednesday received email asking me to confirm that I wanted to close account and send funds to designated Barclays account. I responded Yes!
Nothing happened, phone following Monday early, longish queue, spoke to operative who advised there must have a glitch, but he has now closed the account and the funds will be in my Barclays account on Tuesday. That evening received email saying they needed to verify my long standing Barclays account via open banking, which I have now done. Still waiting……….

Don't know which bank it is but with the cheque books issued by my bank there are some printed paying in slips at the back of them

I have to say I’ve been with Shawbrook for two years now and no problems at all.
I had an easy access account paying monthly interest and now an ISA.  The ISA transfer went through over this last weekend, started on the Friday, funds in by Monday.  No problems moving funds back to my nominated account.
They picked up within a few rings on the rare occasions that I’ve needed to call them.
So I’m quite happy with their service.

    Me too

been with them about two years, had a fixed bond and an EA account- not really had any issues

when I first joined they were slow to answer secure messages, but I think they resolved that issue lately

Seems to be a combination of using multiple accounts to make deposits, and sending from a non-mainstream current account that has resulted in the need for extra checks in this case.
OP hasn't said it's from a 'non-mainstream' account, unless you regard Nationwide Building Society's Flex accounts as 'non-mainstream'. I know the OP has avoided specifying which society it is, although that's not as concerning as ignoring the question quoted at the top of page 2 about depositing from multiple accounts.

I said in my OP that I had made deposits from more than one account. My nominated account is the one you mention. Owing to it being over a year now and my memory is not good on what took place, I looked back at my private messages and did not see any evidence that it was owing to have deposited from more than my nominated account. I do recall having received a letter to sign and having to send with it some further proof of my nominated account. What that was I do not recall. I still have the account and made a substantial online withdrawal in March this year, which went swimmingly. It would appear from my earlier experiences that there was some incompetence at play from a CS and information technology point of view. That view was based on a PM I received and the website experience I described earlier on in the thread. Having said that, my last experience was good and others here have reported that they have had no problems, so I would not discourage anyone from not considering their savings and investing offerings.
