Santander app, catch-22 with OTPs

On Santander app, I have to authorise a payment with an OTP (fine with that, good security) and get to the screen for it to be entered. I go to get the SMS message but when I go back to the Santander app, using my fingerprint to open it again (fine with that, good security), it goes back to the screen with the transaction details and the button to Authorise payment, taking me back down the track of getting a OTP sent again! How do I get out of this loop?

Go to 'Settings', 'Auto Log Out' and change it to five minutes rather than when you close the app

Are you on an android phone? 

On my one the sms flashes up on screen. I can pull down the top of the Santander app far enough to memorise it, without closing the banking app.

Thanks for that.   Was getting a bit peeved that it closed as soon as I navigated away.

Is Lloyds similar?    Goes off to look....

On my iPhone, the code gets displayed whilst I am in the Santander app. I just need to tap it and it magically gets transferred into the OTP field in the app.
