Did you declare the change of circumstances regarding your partner?

Yes. It's all declared. We didn't hide anything, I have no worries about this. We were looking into getting a mortgage. And now this thing with my ex husband came, that he wants to "get rid of me" because the law in our country says that goods from the time of marriage are to be split. That's why he wants to give me some money so I can resign any rights from that house.
I was just thinking, from all what people have said here, could we do the document as if I'm basically selling my share to him? Would that help me not to lose UC? Because I need to count on it too for the mortgage.
    Thank you
It wouldn't help - indeed if you try to claim you own a share of a property you do not live in then that should be declared as an asset which almost certainly would mean no Universal Credit. I also have concern regarding ability to get decent mortgage... property is not typically cheap... and if you're entitled to U/C then I assume your partner is not earning mega money and obviously that will be the key driver of mortgage offers.

Are you sure this is viable?

No, that will not help because you're not actually selling the home you live in and the money you receive will not be disregarded.

Would another issue be, if the house is classed as jointly owned by the OP and OP's ex and Op's share is over £16k  should the OP be currently claiming UC? as OP the would be owner of a second property.

Yes most definitely and there would be no entitlement to UC if capital is more than £16,000. They could potentially end up owing everything they've received.

Looks like firstly I need to go to my country and talk to a lawyer, see documents from the house and see where I'm standing. After how the relationship was, and ended, I'm even surprised he wants to give me any money at all. He's not even paying child maintenance and I know he works, but he didn't declare it. It's all so complicated. All I know is I definitely don't own anything... And he probably will make sure I won't get half of his house anyway. It's all so complicated and he is such a horrible person. And I never want to step him on the toes, because I know how I've lived in fear for many months after the separation, don't want that again.
Thank you for your help, I will see how I'll sort this out.
    Thank you
