Hi all,
My car is on my parking bay with the car wheel seized. The local garage cant see me for another 2 weeks. Is there an alternative? Will AA/RAC be able to come out an unsieze the wheel? I dont know what else I can do! I cant be without a car for 2 weeks!
Thanks

If you've got an AA/RAC membership I'd try them first, or see if you can find a mobile mechanic.

Do you mean that a brake has seized and the wheel won't turn, or that the wheel will turn but you can't get it off of the hub?

If you need to move the car a very short distance urgently (e.g. to another space on the same road), try tapping the seized wheel with a hammer to see if it will unstick.

If it is an alloy wheel, protect the wheel with some cardboard, or place some wood on the wheel and tap the wood with the hammer.  Not too hard--try a few gentle taps on diametrically opposed sides (like driving a nail gently, not breaking concrete force).

Or jack up the car, take the wheel off, then tap the drum (it if is a drum brake) or tap the disc on the edge (not the face), but not denting it.  If it is a disc brake, with the wheel off you should be able to see if the pads have seized on, may be able to push them apart with a large screwdriver on the callipers.

Definitely needs a safety check by an expert (can be AA or a mobile mechanic), not roadworthy until you have got it checked and root cause diagnosed.

Thanks guys. I should have clarified: The wheel wont turn. I think the calipers in the drum are clamped are seized to the wheel. (as you can tell, Im not a mechanic! :D ) Its not as if the car has been sat there for many months. I last drove it 3 days ago!

Its even more frustrating because my local garage is about 400 metres away! He said he will come out and try to unseize it so he can get it back to the garage, but if he cant then it will be £100+ to get a recovery vehicle to get it there.

In the meantime, I will try and give it a few knocks with a hammer and see if I can loosen something.

The handbrake shoes have stuck to the drum. Quite common if you've been driving in wet weather. Try driving backwards & forwards until you hear a massive BANG!! and the car moves.

Happens a lot in my woeful Renault Nissan, a couple of backwards & forwards shunts fixes it.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Just like the Abs fault lights turning on one morning for no reason.
Due to cars becoming more eco ( what a joke ), the abs wiring is encased in a harness.
Said harness is now made using nut oil instead of plastic.
The foxes have a taste for in now.
My mechanic fixes 2/3 a week.
Main dealer wants £150 to scan, then a new abs sensor and wiring harness £500 plus fitting.
He told me to look behind the rear wheels and see if bare or chewed wires were hanging down.
    They were.
Drove to his garage, up on the ramp, 2 wires stripped and soldered. Liberal application of electrical tape. Job done and £35 cost to me.

Sorry, this is wildly off topic, but I notice that the MSE forums have been updated. I now dont get updates when someone replies to my post. Does anyone know how to turn the notification setting back on?
