Just train your wife to put her keys back in the same place like on a hook, then she would never lose her keys and that won't cost you a penny!
Job done 🤣2 -
If you are within 15 feet or so of an AirTag, an Apple device will pick it up and direct you to its precise location.
However, from a distance or remotely, it will only tell you that the key is at your house, or Asda or wherever she might have left it. It won't tell you it's down the back of the sofa or under a pile of washing. Although you can make it play a sound which might work if she's able to hear it.0 -

Anyway, I concluded that there is not an Android device that offers the same live-tracking as AIRTAG does for Apple, so I just ordered a pack of these:

Meet the "cheap as chips" aspiration but really an up to date version of the key rings that we used to have as kids where they bleep if you whistle. Added feature to tell you the last place the keys were in range of the phone which might be useful if you really lost (rather than misplaced) the item.
I will see how these works, but suspect I will need several sets if ever going to attach to all the vast array of things my wife manages to lose on regular basis. Hope the devices do not look too cumbersome for the smaller items.0 -

As you say, these devices rely on individuals signing up for "I'll help you find your stuff if you help me find mine" data sharing and are only viable if a critical mass of users is present in a population. This is probably what makes the AirTag so good. As I understand it, any Apple device with Bluetooth and an iCloud account (which they all seem to have) will report the location of an AirTag within range. My brother recently flew from Heathrow to the US and due to flight cancellations, ended up going via Madrid. Upon arrival in the US, he checked on his iPhone and could see his luggage was in Madrid. He didn't even wait for the luggage not to appear on the carousel, but just went to Lost Luggage with his evidence, which they accepted. He was reunited with his luggage a few days later.Of course an AirTag will be no use attached to a dog that runs away across fields, but for stuff that could be lost in heavily populated areas, it really works.AirTags will get detected if an iphone has the "Find my Phone" feature turned on. If not the iphone won't know anything about any AirTag.I bought my sister a Tile years ago which was fine until the battery ran out then she went back to losing her keys.0 -
The cheapo Amazon tag device arrived this afternoon so I set that up. It is all a bit clunky, but my wife has not lost her house keys yet so that's good.
