Being made redundant

Options
I am (probably) being made redundant, but not for another 8 months or so. When should I tell my unemployment insurance provider? I'm worried if I tell them now that they will then refuse to renew my insurance later in the year, but if I wait until after the renewal could they then refuse my claim as I was aware of redundancy at the time of renewal?

Surely the bit in brackets (probably) answers your question...you dont know yet do you- it might never happen ?. Answer the questions on their form accurately..thats all. If the question says Do you have reason to suspect you might be made redundant ? then answer what you have been told by your employer.  Not what the gossip mongers around the office have decided might happen.

and we will never, ever return.
  • Ok so let's assume the probably bit isn't there. I have a meeting on Thursday that will confirm. It's redundancy due to relocation.

You need to read what your insurance contract says about when to notify. But dont notify them with things you think might happen- only with things you have officially been told by your employer.  Presumably you don't know what's going to be said in Thursdays meeting...otherwise there would be no point in having the meeting ?
