Barclaycard don't allow additional card if not "close family member" or at same address.

This morning I rang Barclaycard with a view to obtaining an additional card for my partner. I've had additional cardholders in the past with no problems. This time, they can't issue one as my partner doesn't live with me and they can only provide additional cards for "close family members". This never used to be the case as one partner didn't live with me and one only lived with me for half the year.
This is a shame as, having a disability, I can't get out as much as I'd like and it'd be really helpful if he were able to buy things on my behalf. Generally he pays cash and I transfer it back to him. Sometimes I've given him my card. But it occurred to me how easy it would be if he had an additional card on my account.
Aside from the fact that I was on the phone to them for 45 minutes and every question involved the adviser having to put me on hold for several minutes - does anyone know when these rules changed?

Just checked MBNA and according to their blurb, I can have an additional cardholder for someone over 18. It doesn't state they have to be at the same address. That seems more reasonable.0

Looking at https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/customer/additional-cardholder in the Wayback When Machine the requirement for an additional cardholder to live at your address appears to have been introduced in 2014ChrisJJ said:

This will just be Barclay's rules as others are happy for your to give cards to much wider set of people1 -
Thanks - appreciate that. Yes, looks like I'll be going with MBNA for an additional card!0

It applies to a fair number of lenders due to AML considerations.
MBNA is now basically just another Lloyds brand and they used to to have the same requirement. I would double check before applying since this is important to you.0 -
Just apply for it in your partners name and put your address, I've never had a CC company ask for any additional info. Remember they're not lending them money, as you're still responsible for everything they spend, so the checks don't need to be all that stringent (I've had additionals on Barclaycard, MBNA, Amex and others I don't recall right now). We do live together, but different surnames.ChrisJJ said:This morning I rang Barclaycard with a view to obtaining an additional card for my partner. So you are suggesting committing fraud given for Barclaycard you have to tick a box to state the person is a close family member that lives at your address?guesswho2000 said:

Not saying you wont get away with the fraud @guesswho2000 but most arent as brazen to recommend it on a public forum given the potential consequences were the OP's bank to find out4 -
And it could cause all sorts of problems if OP is claiming means tested benefits, or is getting the single occupier council tax discount, if credit searches show another adult living at the address.DullGreyGuy said:

Unfortunately, as I am currently receiving benefits, I can't risk doing anything like this. They cross check everything these days and it could really mess up my income if they found another name associated with my address.guesswho2000 said:

You are missing that apart from risking losing account.guesswho2000 said:
