    Thanks for the info, i just couldn't find anything. It seems unfair of course. I think the pensioners on the old system have been neglected.
    No one told me this and in fact i didn't know i could do top ups until it was too late to go back and top up earlier years.
    of course it's easier now with the internet and help from people about Martin Lewis.

    Yes you said you get £175 for 4 weeks. That’s a very small amount.

    In which case, wouldn't Pension Credit potentially be the way to go, rather than seeking to clarify very of NI Credit issues - that is unless there is significant income from other sources, of course?

    we could live off my husband's income. Anyway i now know the answer and will reluctantly try and put this problem to bed. It still irks though.

    The OP said earlier that she had 31 years which would be higher than a Cat B pension. Yet she says she only gets £175 every 4 weeks. Something doesn’t quite make sense here.
