Second Barclaycard

Options
I took out a credit card from Barclaycard a few years ago with 0% on purchases for two years. I used this while the offer was active and haven't since as interest is now applied. The balance is paid off and I don't plan on using it again. Barclaycard now have another offer which is very similar (and they sent via a promotional email) which I would like to apply for. Current credit score is 999 via Experian. Couple of questions:

1. Should I cancel my old card - as stated I am not using it and not likely to?
2. How is my eligibilty affected by having/not having an existing Barclaycard? i.e. am I likely to get it? Do Barclaycard allow having two cards?

As far as I am aware, they don’t allow a second Barclaycard

I once had a Freedom Rewards, a dual one which came with AmEx and Visa and I also had a platinum cardall at the same time, this was about 5 years ago though so they may have changed it.

Barclaycard have blown hot and cold on additional cards over the years. They once paid me £50 to keep a second card open, when I called to close it.

At the moment they don't allow second cards. They also don't give offers within 6 months of closing a previous Barclaycard.

No they don't. If you have two already they let you keep them both, which is subtly different.

I've got two Barclaycards - the Forward, which was my first credit card after a debt management plan, and the Hilton Honors card, applied for on one of the seemingly rare occasions that Barclaycard allowed you to apply for another card.
    Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
Paid back just under £50,000 due to some interest added.

Barclaycard used to allow one 'standard' Barclaycard (Forward/Freedom Rewards/Platinum etc) and one affinity card - IHG or Hilton. This was because Barclaycard wouldn't allow you to transition between a 'standard' card and an affinity one, so effectively you'd have been blocked from having one if they didn't allow a second

Then the IHG card went, then finally the Hilton card closed to new business so the rule effectively became just one.

The Avios card has since been added but Barclaycard allow you to transition to/from that product (subject to eligibility) from other Barclaycards (except Hilton, still!) and so the 1 card rule remains.

There's an option in the BC app to switch your card.

I have been with Barclaycard for 25 years and I can absolutely confirm that right now you cannot apply for a second Barclaycard unless you close your existing one and wait six months.

Product swap is possible but not available to everyone and there have been many reports of going into the app section to change card and getting the message that none are available.

it is also important to note that any offer you may see for new customers, like the OP is mentioning, will not be available when you do the product change or at best, you would have a worst off version of it.

finally, as others have said, Barclaycard over the years have some time allowed more than one card, then stopped, then allowed again and so on. At one point I had two Barclaycard Platinum and the Hilton card. I did many products changed over the years, from standard BarclayCard in the late 1990’s to the Gold version when it was first launched, then Platinum, Cashback duo (Amex/Visa), and lately Avios.
