I'm finding it weirdly difficult trying to confirm the details needed to transfer funds from a non-Post Office bank account into a Post Office savings account. Can anyone who does this help? Do you just use the account holder's name and their account number/sort code or do you also need to enter a specific reference? Thanks in advance.

What type of Post Office savings account is it ? Is it a modern account that is currently available or an older, passbook-type of account ? And does it belong to you or someone else ? If it's your account and you have access to the T&Cs, then they may provide the answer.

I held a Post Office Online Saver account a few years ago and that had it's own sort code and a conventional 8-digit account number, which was all that was needed to pay into it.

When paying into a bank account, you normally only have to give your account number as a reference number if you have to use a sort-code and account number that belong to the bank or building society itself. More modern account like their Online Saver suggest that the Post Office don't fall into this category, but it's possible that this might not necessarily be the case for their older accounts.

Either way, when you've worked it out, sending a small test payment first (and ensuring it is received) would be recommended.

Thanks. It wasn't in the T&Cs and Customer Services didn't seem to be able to answer. Anyway I did a payment for £1 and found my answer :)

..Post Office are terrible. Poor online experience and totally useless customer service...avoid if at all possible.I for one will never use them again regardless of their rates...far far too much hassle...

    Completely agree

Were you able to sort this out?
@alexiv Yeah I just used the account holder's name and the sort code/account number and it was fine. No additional reference number needed.

I'm finding Post Office ok to be honest - no issues encountered. The easy access rate has fallen behind the pack though so no money in there at present.

I also don't like Post Office and don't use it anymore. Having looked for the alternatives to a letterbox, I found a good list here and switched to a Redirection Service. Speaking about other services, UK mail forwarding, Directors Service Address, London residential address generator, and official address registration with Companies House might be good options, especially for businesses.
