I still haven't seen anyone else offering advice to the OP for where to get contents insurance with public liability and how much cover to go for.0

Yes you have.... EVERY SINGLE CONTENTS INSURANCE POLICY INCLUDES THIRD PARTY LIABILITY aka public liability.pramsay13 said:I still haven't seen anyone else offering advice to the OP for where to get contents insurance with public liability and how much cover to go for.
For example...
M&S https://bank.marksandspencer.com/pdf/HISummaryCoverLimits.pdf has £5m liability cover under each Buildings and Contents.
Aviva https://static.aviva.io/content/dam/aviva-public/gb/pdfs/personal/insurance/home/home-insurance/insurance-home-aviva_homesummarybenefits.pdf has £5m liability under each Buildings and Contents
Churchill https://www.churchill.com/home-insurance/options/home-cover-compare £2m on basic, £5m on plus liability for each Buildings and Contents
LV= https://www.lv.com/-/insurance/media/gi/home-insurance/pdfs/cover-and-limits/35892-2023-your-cover-and-limits-essentials-home-home-plus.pdf?u=20230703150738 has £5m liability cover under each Buildings and Contents on all levels
There really isnt much of a choice what level to get, almost all are £5m other than the most budget policies which are £2m but given the OP is concerned about water damage to the flat below, unless their neighbour has a collection of Stradivari violins in the room below then they are faily safe with either limit

Public liability will not cover flooding into the flat below as long as you have not been negligent. Show me proof of when public liability insurance has been used this way.0

If you've not been negligent then you have no responsibility to cover the consequences but your insurance will still pay to defend you against any claims.pramsay13 said:Public liability will not cover flooding into the flat below as long as you have not been negligent. But at least you finally understand that Home insurance comes with embedded liability cover.0 -
This is very hard work!!!pramsay13 said:Public liability will not cover flooding into the flat below as long as you have not been negligent. Show me proof of when public liability insurance has been used this way.
Yes, it will cover the policyholder. Whether the 3rd party has a legitimate claim against the upstairs householder is another matter altogether. Public Liability cover will defend the policyholder's position in respect of their legal liability.
In the nicest way, I would probably stick to your day job, as your guidance on this thread is not very helpful, particularly if someone doesn't know any better and follows your lead.
