I’ve noticed apart from being pale, pallid and not browning when cooked. Tesco sausages now contain bamboo fibre!!! Incidentally they taste disgusting 🤢 can humans digest bamboo fibre? This product is probably a good example of UPF (ultra processed food) and how bad it is for your gut!

Bamboo can be very good for you and has been eaten in various forms for years.

I've noticed this "new" ingredient in other food too. I'm assuming it takes the place of things known to be allergy triggers (gluten etc)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. It soaks up fat allowing them to use cheaper fattier meat.

I can just see Tesco executives who decide on recipes thinking what can we put in this product and also on the ingredients that a human cant digest and see how long it takes for them to notice.0

I think this is probably the right answer. Most sausages used to contain some rusk, but they have switched to rice flour or in this case bamboo to ensure the product is gluten free.Brie said:I've noticed this "new" ingredient in other food too. Comparing Asda & Tesco pork sausages (90% pork) both have rice flour, but only Tesco needs the bamboo fibre.jon81uk said:

To me this suggests more leakage from the Tesco one, so either the water content is higher or more fat in the meat.

And, as a consequence, ruined their products for those of us (the overwhelming majority) for whom gluten intolerance is not a problem. I used to occasionally buy Morrisons The Best or Waitrose pork sausages but within weeks both changed markedly in consistency and it wasn't until I read the ingredients list that I realised what had happened. Now I don't buy either, but instead get them from my local butcher who makes her own and uses proper rusk in them!jon81uk said:

Of course, there are many for whom the words 'gluten free' somehow translate as 'healthier', not because they genuinely have a diagnosed problem with gluten but because they read the words on the Internet or in a tabloid newspaper and made an assumption.2
