Google Msg App showing ticks but NOT delivered

Just recently some (not all) of my messages have a double, circled tick under them. Having confirmed with the recipents, each one of these messages with 2 ticks hasn't actually arrived! Its a nightmare. No amout of searching the web has answered this for me, any clues please
