@Alderbank Some of us still use cash! As it’s something we still want to keep alive as an alternative to a card. Also as I found out before using a credit card they the bank or credit card company would just simply refer you back to the Manufacturer in this instance. It’s not as easy as just saying please Mr NatWest raise a chargeback and give me my money back.

The banks would never go under as us the tax payers would bail them out again!

Also as I have found out in quite a few retailers these days not not as easy as going in a quoting the CRA they often make it difficult to deal with the retailer and for some it can cause undue stress. This is what I am trying to highlight.
You are certainly right that a lot of retail staff don't seem to understand the CRA - I would say your average till person may have an excuse (although companies really should be training people better) but store managers really should understand the rules.

I've just had this experience with another retailer and had to insist repeatedly that the CRA applied not their warranty terms. And as you've found out on this one when you find someone who does understand the rules it generally works out OK.

The only way to really move things on is to report them to Trading Standards and if they get enough complaints about one specific entity then they might do something about it.
