The wait for smart meters may be area related, they like to do lots of installs in one area and then move on to another - a few years ago I did the same with Octopus and just a thank you reply for letting them know, no action.

Just for anyone else reading this who wants a smart meter with octopus.. I used the express an interest option but heard nothing. Happened to hit a button in my account for a smart meter and found two dates there to choose from. Went ahead and meters were fitted, but no contact from octopus to offer dates. You do have to be a bit proactive it seems.

At the end of 2022 only 55% of the UK had SM fitted.
Not sure there's anything "only" about that figure. It means there are more domestic smart meters than dumb ones, and (according to the same document) 9 in 10 smart meters are working in smart mode.

From your first post on page one.

Most households already have smart meters.

No they don`t, only 55% of UK households at the end of 2022 have them.

Unless someone has changed maths since I was at school, 55% is "most"?

Hardly a great majority considering the original target was the whole country by 2019.

    https://www.current-news.co.uk/uk-falling-behind-on-smart-meter-installation-with-only-57-uptake-so-far/

The National Audit Office (NAO) has published an update on the rollout of smart meters showing that the UK has fallen well behind its original target of completing its rollout by 2019.

There is currently a proposal to reach 80% smart meter rollout by the end of 2025, but by the end of March 2023, only 57% of that rollout was completed.

But you agree that it is a majority.

If 52% was "the will of the people", then 55% can certainly be called "most".
  • There is currently a proposal to reach 80% smart meter rollout by the end of 2025, but by the end of March 2023, only 57% of that rollout was completed.

Which is why Ofgem is fining suppliers who fail to meet their mandated number of smart meter installations. I suspect that smart meter installers are beginning to feel that they are a bit like fruit pickers. There are better jobs to be had which don’t require workers to be out in the cold all day.
