Floor Soundproofing- Grants/funds?

Hello all,

I am a landlord and looking to put in soundproofing flooring throughout my flat under the carpet in all areas. I have had a quick google search to no luck.
Does anyone know if there are any government grants in this area?

It's quite costly so ay money saved would be helpful!

Hi, The problem with putting in more insulation under the carpet may require all the doors in the flat to be altered.
you may also have issues with Fire Safety if you need Fire Doors
After Greenfell new Fire Safety rules now apply to blocks of flats over a certain height.

I've never heard of grants for such things, and if they exist I would very much doubt that landlords would qualify for them.

Changing the tenants may be cheaper than soundproofing the floors!

Probably not - soft flooring ie carpet would dampen a lot of the noises.

They say they want to put the soundproofing under the carpet so its already soft flooring

To the OP - why are you wanting to increase the soundproofing? Unfortunately "noisy neighbours upstairs" isnt a governmental priority compared to energy efficiency or fire safety etc and so unlikely to find any grants available.

My tenants neighbours have complained about noise from my tenants. Mainly footsteps from walking around the flat, they live in the flat under the tenants. The carpet does need replacing so I thought I could add soundproofing whilst I change the carpet. I want my old neighbours and tenants to be as happy as possible.  :)

Just put in a decent quality carpet underlay when you replace the carpets.   This is about as good as it gets anyway and much better than laminate or other hard flooring.

Would underlay do anything? I'd have thought you would need to put something in the ceiling below or between the joists. When we lived in flats it was unfortunately just something you learn to live with and eventually ignore. Are downstairs neighbours new?
