I'm looking to obtain my first credit card.
This is only for the purpose of booking holidays at which point the funds will be transferred to settle the bill.
Of course, it will also give some comfort in the event being caught short just before payday.

Any recommendations?
I'm a nationwide customer.

Start with your own bank.
Unless you are really wanting rewards, but then you need to use card a lot more.

Their credit card is good abroad as it "comes with worldwide commission-free purchases" - unlike their debit cards.
