Car insurance repair, taking ages to get quote.

I hope someone can help.
I drove my car into a post last week and smashed in the sill and passenger door. I have since claimed through the insurance and been down to the approved garage on Monday so they could assess the damage.
Since then I have been told the quote will go over Tues, then Wednesday then Thursday... How long does this process normally take?
The insurer tells me the are taking two weeks to approve the claims and then it needs to be repaired so I want this asap to get the ball rolling.
Is this normal? How long should I expect the initial quote to take? I don't feel that comfortable driving the car at the moment but have no other choice

Many garages, if they are on an insurer's approved supplier list, tend to be working at full capacity most of the time and so things always go slower than is ideal. Most the time a quote will be done within a day or so of seeing the car however these days the parts supply issues could add a lot of complexity (no point quoting based on buying from A if they havent had stock for 9 months) plus you can always find that the estimator, Bob, called in sick today saying he believes he'll be well enough for tomorrow only for that to be repeated the next day.housebuyer143 said:Is this normal? Thanks, I find it very frustrating but feel I am stuck waiting and constantly being told "it's next on the list" or " he's doing it now".DullGreyGuy said:

I can't go anywhere else either as the list the insurer gave me had 5 garages and the rest were quite far away ☹️.0 -
Called again to be told it's definitely being done today 🙄 I said to him, if it's not that's okay but just tell me that, as there is nothing worse than constantly being told it's today when it isn't. Still said it will be done this morning 😕
I have given up and called the insurer who is going to chase it for me from now on.0 -
The insurer has chased and said the garage tells them it is in a pile and will be done by the end of the week...
Not sure what's going on tbh, but 2 weeks for a quote seems a little long. I wonder how long it will take them to book it in once they get the go ahead 🙄0
