I believe that our number plates and it's information is private and is kept by the DVLA. And can ONLY be used by them or given to the police in cases of crime. So are the DVLA selling our personal information to Air ports, supper markets an ALL the car parks for financial gain, is this legal??? Should information be gain in this way as it is illegal .

"The law allows DVLA to release information from the vehicle register to the police and local authorities. Regulation 27 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulation 2002 also allows us to release data to private or public sector organisations and individuals. This is providing they can demonstrate reasonable cause to have it. The release of information about vehicles and their keepers for such purposes is long established and was in place before DVLA existed. As the law allows the release of personal data, we do not need the vehicle keeper’s consent to disclose their details."

Tesco's, The Co-Op, Sainsbury's and the rest sell breakfast and lunch, too...
And no, as has been said, it's all in POFA. Motor insurers have been using the database for years, too.2
