Last year's income tax

I have just finished my 2022/2023 self assessment paperwork. I have calculated how much tax I should have paid and would like to cross reference this with HMRC. However, after logging on, and then being redirected to my self assesment account, you can only view 2021/22 and previous years.
Can anyone let me know why I can't see last year's tax receipts on GOV.UK? They have the money so why can't you see what you have paid?
Thanks

  • What exactly is you want to see?

Tax deducted at source from employment and/or pension income?

Your Self Assessment statement of account showing the payment you have personally made?

    Something else?
  • I would like to see how much tax I have paid in 2022/3. i.e up to Apr 3rd 2023

The tax you have paid will be shown on your Self Assessment statement of account but this would never be something you include on your Self Assessment return.

As far as tax an employer/pension payer has deducted then if you log onto your Personal Tax Account and choose the "Pay As You Earn (PAYE)" option you will then be able to see a list of employment and pension income for the past few years.

If you want more detail just select an individual pension or employment and you will be taken to a section where you can view the Real Time Information details that employer or pension payer has submitted.  It should show the taxable pay/pension along with any tax or National Insurance deducted.
  • I will try what you suggested but I'm sure just wasn't able to access this earlier. I have a  salary from two employers and income from other sources. Income tax for last was estimated by HMRC in 2022. I would just like a single link on GOV.UK where I can see the total amount of tax I paid last tax year.  This doesn't seem to be available.
If it does, can you post the link.
    Thanks

I'm not aware of any such option.

I would expect you to be able to see any tax deducted from the two employments on your Personal Tax Account but it's not clear what other tax you are expecting to see.

If it is tax you have personally paid to HMRC then it will only ever be shown on your Self Assessment statement of account.
  • Am I being unreasonable to ask a simple question of HMRC.
e.g. I am xyz, how much have I paid you?

I design and build management information systems and this type of summary information is always high on the requirements list for my customers.

If that is genuinely what you want then simply check your Self Assessment statement of account.
  • Back to my original point, it's not available on my HMRC account for 2022/3

    That seems very odd.

Just logged on to Personal Tax Account and "Self Assessment" is one of the options.

When accessing that there is an option to "View Your Payments" and that details payments right back to 1998!
  • Here is my account screen shot for last year...Also shown below in text.

    All zero.

Any idea why last years payments aren't shown? Maybe a question for HMRC. Are they waiting for me to tell them how much I have paid but won't show the receipts from last year as a cross reference?
