I switch between Coventry, Tandem and Chip.
    Whoever has the best rate.
    Round and round it goes.
Plus the 14 day shuffle with my Virgin isa.

Chip and Tandem are very much the same. The one advantage Chip has is it tells you daily your current interest accrued.

Definitely poses a decision between Chip and Tandem I think, I did like Chip for what appears to be frequent rate increases but potentially could use both and switch between I guess?
These two have been my main EA accounts for sometime now. Both increase frequently, but overall Chip tends to be in the lead. Apart from the rates, the advantage of Chip is instantaneity.  Tandem's transactions take about 5-20 minutes to arrive. The advantage of Tandem is connectivity to multiple banks, with Chip you can deposit/withdraw to one nominated account only. Having both and switch funds between them as you deem appropriate is a better practice than sticking with one account only.

Thanks all, trying Tandem at the moment, I like their "green" initiatives. So far two things I'm not liking, one as mentioned:
    1) Seems to be slow updating the balance, about 20 minutes or so. Not sure how long it takes to move the money to the linked account when needed.
    2) Biometric (fingerprint) login with the app not working, keeps saying failed. Works fine with about 5 other banking apps I use.

I like the idea of Chip being faster and also the live interest accrual would be nice. I wanted one that paid monthly as both seem to.

I checked out Coventry but they seem a fair bit lower at the moment. Considered Tesco as well.

Will monitor Chip and sign up hopefully there too.

Pain also I could only transfer up to £1k from my Natwest account at the moment as need a card reader otherwise which I don't have.

i had same issue with transfering funds from my natwest account, but if you use the app you can raise the daily limit yourself .

Thanks, I had a look but it didn't seem to allow me. It came up as not confirmed when I added Tandem so wondered if that was the issue?

I have the same problem with Tandem and fingerprints, I much prefer a passcode.

One benefit of Tandem is you can link multiple banks both current and savings accounts, Chip only allows one which I think has to be a current account.

Thanks, I did message them as it's useful for me to access all my accounts with fingerprint on my phone but ok using the text message method.

Getting quite a good idea of pros and cons of Chip vs Tandem definitely.

I do have two main current accounts, Natwest and Nationwide which I could add both in.

What would be great is if I could add Tandem into my Natwest app to see the balance in there without signing in to the Tandem app but believe open banking is for current accounts only even if Tandem was supported.

Are you using a secure folder on a Samsung phone? I couldn't set up biometric security for Tandem app unless app was installed on "normal" space. Same for Barclays.
  • No issues with Chip, great app.
