time for your meter safety inspection

Do they know its a garage ?
You could remind them and tell them therefore its normally unattended.
And needs an actual appointment arranged.
Meter readers often recorded a failure to gain access. How many reasons etc I don't know - there are some ex readers posting here.
I know refusal to grant access was also recorded - but that wouldn't be true - your just not present at the location.
And of course will may turn up at your address instead. Assuming that's the billing address.

Detached garages like these are always awkward as the only address meter readers normally have, is Garage 5 blah blah, so without us knowing which house owns the garage, as in this case, the meter will never get inspected.
Despite being called, or known as meter readers, we do a 'visual inspection' and the reading confirms our visit.
Most of these I will send back as requires appointment or more info or the house number etc.
I think this letter is just trying to get an appointment as obviously nobody has seen the meter for a while, you will probably find it will just be a meter reader turn up rather than an engineer2 -
Or Scottish Power finding excuses to fit Smart Meter !
I had same email few days ago from Scottish Power:
"It's time for your meter safety inspection
Your meter is due a visual safety inspection"
They say it will be "inspected" by Morrison Data Services who read the meters, so nothing technical, more like just an excuse
and a private company working on their behalf in their interests.
Few weeks ago I had 3 emails in a week out of blue from Scottish Power saying they need to fit Smart Meter/new meter:
"Your electricity meter needs to be replaced
We need to upgrade your meter"
We've already seen dodgy behaviour of energy suppliers in force fitting new meters.0 -
There is nothing dodgy going on here. When Ofgem dropped the requirement for suppliers to read meters a few years ago, it insisted that suppliers put in place formal meter safety checks under HSE legislation.peter999 said:Or Scottish Power finding excuses to fit Smart Meter !

All meters have a certified life and suppliers are required under The Gas and Electricity Acts to replace end-of-life meters to ensure accurate billing. The Government agreed in 2019 that, in such circumstances, suppliers could fit smart meters WITHOUT the consumer’s approval.4 -
Meter readers from whatever company (and Morrison Data Services are the biggest) carry out a 'visual safety inspection' every time, the reading is just to prove they have been and (stupidly I believe) isn't always used for billing.peter999 said:Or Scottish Power finding excuses to fit Smart Meter !

I bet there are some meters still reading in ft.3 and some are not getting any communication to swap them to smart meters. I bet some of those reading in ft.3 are still giving accurate readings even though they're well over 50 years old. Some with the old ft.3 meters might be getting bills in M3 meaning they are being undercharged for the electric they are using, the suppliers should really know what meters their customers have whether it reads in ft.3, M3 or is a smart meter.Spoonie_Turtle said:
Just so you know, when that meter reaches the end of its certification period they are required to replace it. It will be replaced with a smart meter under there is "good reason" not to (something like if the installation is impossible, not simply a customer not wanting one).frenzy382 said:ok..thanks. It's for an old electricity meter in my garage....they've been pestering me to get a Smart Meter for a while and I never responded. Now i get a request to inspect the meter...so naturally my conspiracy theories start creeping in and I'm thinking it's just another way of getting the meter swapped out. I reckon they don't believe that i use pretty much 0 kwh/month...
(Obviously if it's deemed unsafe or broken before that, they can replace it anyway.)Someone please tell me what money is0 -
I take your point, but if they're measuring "electric" either in cubic feet or cubic meters then something has gone very wrong.wild666 said:

Of course meters never had "a certified life", they were never routinely changed, NEVER !![Deleted User] said:
