New home, new supplier

You would have become responsible for the EDF bills as soon as the estate administrator transferred ownership to you. At that point they should have submitted meter readings to EDF and paid the final bill for the estate.2

Just make sure the account with EDF is fully set up before you attempt to switch. ie they have confirmed an account no./tariff etc.
I have personal experience of a switch being blocked because the losing supplier had not fully set up the account.0
