Hello, This maybe a bit of a out of the blue thread and I'm unsure where to post such a thing but I thought it best to post something online to get peoples opinion of what I can only describe as something not worded correctly in the building trade.
I am getting some building works done at my property and I had the inspector out today, basically I'm getting a wall knocked out and I couldn't remember what you called those things that you keep a wall up when it is a load bearing wall and to get a lintel replaced, so I simply remembered what the builder called them which was strong boys, so last night before bed I googled strong boy lintel as I couldn't remember what you called them and pictures of boys faces with strong arms came up which I was disgusted over and somewhat distraught, eventually I found out what they were called (Acro Props) or strongboys.
So my question simply is, is there anybody I could contact CAB or even police to remove this sort of content or get the name actually removed within the building trade as that is what they are actually called. I feel this is yet another term/name that needs to be looked at!

you're not serious though, right?
I've never heard anyone use that term for an acro prop.
But I doubt there is any crime being committed if they did.
EDIT: Well, it turns out that there is a company called Strongboy (strongboy.co.uk) who manufacture and supply the props.
So maybe you need to take it up with them?1 -
Why were you disgusted and distraught by pictures of boys with strong arms?
If you mean they are actually pornographic you can ask your internet service provider to turn off those kind of images.
You won't persuade an entire industry to stop using a slang term they've been using for years, so just don't Google it again.0 -
Mmm. Your google must be different to mine, as I got no pic's other than the item that holds the wall in place. When searching "strong boy lintel" 😶🌫️
Is this is why it's in Marriage, relationships & families section?Life in the slow lane0 -

Hello, I'm simply getting some serious responses to what I googled and not very nice type comments if I may say this from any users please as I trying to be polite, all I google was strong boy as that is what the builder said they were called I insure if I put lintel or anything after this, I was tired as well so bad timing when I was worrying about it as with the inspector coming out and the building works its been very stressful! It was just after midnight before I went to sleep so I might of not even put up lintel as well, I'm simply saying that calling these prop things strong boys or whatever people call them doesn't appear very well worded that's all. I will certainly use the term Acro props from now on that's for sure!! I can assure you not nothing terrible and !!!!!! came up but I was rather shocked to see this as I wasn't expecting it!! many thanks for comments anyways.0

Yes I spotted that as well that there is a website called strongboy.co.uk many thanks for pointing this out.0

also I'm not going to google it anyways but I'm unsure what comes up with strong boy lintels but it was something like that that I typed in might of been a name of a boy, might of just been strong boys, so that's obviously what it might of been, strongboy.co.uk didn't come up?
This is from google - FYI
Also known as Strong Boys, Acrow Prop Head Supports and Strongboy Props, they provide support to the upper section of walls while the masonry beneath is removed in preparation to fit anything from beams and lintels to RSJs.
anyways also happy for comments and other peoples thoughts ...thanks.0 -
Imagine my delight when my husband said we needed strong boys and my disappointment when they turned up.
I'd imagine it's a brand name associated with a certain product. ie. I always say I'm going to push the Hoover around. I have a Dyson but as Hoover was one of the early manufacturers, it stuck. Possibly with same with Strong boys????5 -
I googled it, and just got bodybuilders. Nothing pornographic at all.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
