Wedding insurance

We have been reading through the wedding insurance guidance on the MSE website and can see that it is recommended to choose a provider regulated by the UK FCA. However, most wedding insurance providers operate under a different trading name to its parent company (or underwriter) that is quoted as being regulated by the FCA. Which company within this chain needs to be regulated by the FCA for the protection to apply?

What protection are you hoping to have? I am guessing access to the Financial Ombudsman and FSCS?

Ideally you want both the seller and the insurer to be FCA regulated (the insurer would also be PRA regulated) however access to the above two services can also be achieved if its a UK branch of an overseas insurer or if they are domiciled in certain UK overseas territories like Gibraltar.

The seller would be on the hook for any complaints around miss-selling or if they didnt pass the premiums on to the insurer. The insurer is on the hook for any claims. Companies can delegate authority and so it really comes down to who the Complaint's section says you have to deal with.
