Refunds being withheld

I am a customer of SSE and have been trying to get a refund from my electric account. My balance was £3500.00 in credit and we asked for a £2000 refund.
On 3 occasions now over a period of over a month I have contacted them. After waiting on average 50 minutes Gone through their process of providing a meter reading, being told my refund would be processed in 10 days only to find on each occasion it was not paid. Each time I have had no message from SSE and when I have called to find out why I haven't received they say it was cancelled. This has happened on 3 occasions now.
I think this is a total scam. How much money must they and other companies be sat on accumulating interest.
They have no problem taking money from their customers.
SSE customer service is absolutely terrible.
I would like to know if this is a common experience.
Something needs to be done to make this process easier.

Switch to someone else, they are obliged to refund any credit within a set period.2

The unanswered question is ‘how have you managed to accrue a credit balance of £3500’?stephenjarvis7 said:I am a customer of SSE and have been trying to get a refund from my electric account. My balance was £3500.00 in credit and we asked for a £2000 refund.

Remember a debit/credit balance is valid for a single day and only then if it is based on an actual meter reading. It is a simple exercise to work out whether the £3500 was accurate.0
