Do I need (written) permission from ex partner to take kids abroad?
I am a divorced father of two kids (15 and 12). Divorce was reasonably amicable, as far as these things can be and we share custody (if that's the correct term) 50/50. No court orders, disputes or issues.
Have taken the boys overseas before with no issue. Am due to take them to the US for a holiday later this year. To be clear, ex wife has no problem with this and is glad the kids are getting to go.
I wasn't even aware that it might be a "thing" that I needed her written permission? Last thing I need is some grumpy customs official to scupper things?
Any advice or guidance on if I need a letter from her, birth certificate etc for the holiday?

yes, getting the letter will not be a problem. Does the letter need to be "authorised" or witnessed by anyone else ?marcia_ said:Id get it especially if you are on ok terms with the mother. The usa is very strict when it comes to kids, custody eyc0 -
No, just the letter with mum's phone number in case they want to verify.mr_stripey said:

my friend now lives in Nashville, her kids and ex in Utah. She can't even take her kids across state lines as father won't agree.0 -
