Smart gas meter blank since April. Octopus unresponsive.

    As reported above the smart meter and gas meter were replaced on 31 December 2024, but the gas meter is still not communicating with Octopus. We have been receiving estimated bills for gas since January 2024 and we are in credit by over £1,100. It is very likely that the credit will be used up once the gas meter situation (farce?) is sorted out.
    Sorry if I've missed something, but is there a reason you haven't submitted readings since the meter isn't communicating to send them automatically?

    So your electricity meter and gas meter were changed together then - at the same time by the same engineer? 

    As previously said - avoid the risks associated with estimated bills by making a note to read the gas meter once a month and submit the reading manually.

    I think you missed this. The old gas meter had a blank screen from 'early 2024'.

    The OP is coming up to the end of the first month with the new meters, so I'm sure he'll be submitting readings this week. 
    I'm not being lazy ...
    I'm just in energy-saving mode.

    Just to clarify. 
    Shell Energy told me in January 2024 that the gas meter was not giving them readings. 
    I reverted to giving readings from the meter which I was able to do in January and February 2024. After that the gas meter stopped giving readings, blank screen, that was reported to Octopus Energy. 
    It would appear that Octopus received a couple of readings from the meter during 2024. However it did finally give up. 
    I have been in discussion with Octopus for most of 2024 regarding gas readings.
    Most of my gas bills for 2024 are estimates.
    They are fully aware of the situation and have said they are taking action. 
    I have given gas readings to Octopus from the new gas meter three times since it was installed a month ago. 
    I have raised a complaint with Octopus.

    Ah-ha, yes the timing there did not register at all, thank you, and apologies to Sandgrown1 for missing that.

    Fingers crossed all appears to have been sorted out. Octopus have emailed me to say that the gas meter is now communicating with the Smart Meter and therefore Octopus. They will take readings today, 1st February.
    The IHD is now showing electricity and gas readings. It can now be popped into a drawer and pulled out occasionally.
    I hope this marks the end of a year long saga. It is a pity that the impetus came from me, the customer, rather than the supplier.
