EasyJet flight cancelled 15min before boarding

On Sunday evening I was due to fly home from CDG to BRS with my family. As we were queuing to board it became apparent that the flight had been cancelled. No explanation given we were told to rebook via the app.  We were lucky enough to get on flight the following evening (Monday) at a different airport and booked into a hotel via the airline app as well. When we asked how to get to the hotel which was in ORY the other side of Paris we were told, train, taxi bus you decide. After dragging our family to the train station we finally arrived in Orly and flew out last night. I have completed EasyJets online form and been rejected for compensation for the flight under EU regulation EU261/2004 but told my reasonable expenses can be submitted. It cost 180 euros just to get from one airport to another and we were offered no food vouchers at all. Also duty free had been purchased but couldn’t get through security at Orly and had to left. 

Is there anything I can do to counter this legislation?  Thanks

whether compensation is due will depend on the reason for the cancellation and if it was within the airline's control
Duty of care is due irrespective of the reason
You should submit your taxi receipt together wit your receipts for food purchased. Did you have any checked baggage that you could have placed the duty free in or, if not, checked one of your carry on bags (and reclaimed the baggage fee if they insisted on charging it?)
