Samsung Flip 4 faulty.

I bought a new flip 4 in Sept '22. The hinge stuck and so I could no longer open it fully, only to 90° as it was starting to put pressure on the screen itself. It is in pristine condition no scratches or bumps. Apparently this is a major defect with these Samsung type phones and they are getting a large number of returns/repairs weekly. I am waiting to see if they are going to cover it with warranty or try to fob it off. Any advice as to what my rights are for when they do contact me?

As it's beyond six months, they could reasonably ask you to prove it's faulty, as opposed to having become faulty through misuse, abuse or accidental damage. That would mean getting someone to inspect it and conclude there's an inherent problem with the design and/or manufacture.0

Your rights under Samsung's warranty are whatever the warranty says.
These flexible screens are very new technology and as you say they know there are some problems with them. They do seem to be reaching out to owners of problematic units with offers such as one free screen replacement.
Quite separately from Samsung's warranty you have consumer rights with whoever you bought the phone from. Was that Samsung? Those rights are in addition to any rights under the warranty. @Aylesbury_Duck has summarised those rights above.1 -
From what I've heard on many forums (including pro-samsung) theres some higher failure rates in the "4" models vs the "3". One rumour was 20% (ie. 1 in 5!). I gather the "5" is being announced on 26th July and is supposed to fix the issues.
In september last year I seem to recall there was a free extended warranty included in purchases from samsung - did you get it from them or from another source?Peter

In October 2022 I purchased 2 Flip 4 phones. One of them the screens broke at the fold and then not able see anything on the screen. The other phone the screen started to go at about 12 months, however I can still use it but does not open fully and the screen feels to have lumps in it. Samsung have refused to fix this as they were purchased in Dubai because 'they are out of region phones' and might have different components, even thought they are made in the same factory. I think this is shameful of Samsung not to honour warranties of phones that cost nearly £1,000 especially as there is a known fault. I have learnt a very expensive lesson not to buy consumer electronics outside your home country and never to buy another Samsung product as they are cowboys.

As you might expect, consumer rights laws and the penalties for transgressing them are strict in the UAE.
For starters, you might want to consider Article 15- Obligations of the Good SupplierThe Supplier shall stipulate in the contracts concluded by him that he commits to repair, undertake maintenance or After-Sales Service or to return, replace or refund the Good within a specific time-limit from the appearance of the Defect or Malfunction, in accordance with what is specified by the Implementing Regulation of this Law.
Who, under UAE law, was the supplier of your phones?0
