An important point that has been largely ignored - is the physical sizeDo not buy the smallest that you can - because they are easy to lose/vacuum up etcFrom experience - I lost one, a few years ago - I now use a bigger one, with a loop on the back attached to a keyring !
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.1 -
I had a batch of unbranded USB sticks off ebay that corrupted the, fortunately unimportant, data I was using them for. I've never had any issues with Kingston or SanDisk USB sticks.cerebus said:
I've personally never experienced that are these branded or unbranded ones?Mr.Generous said:I've always found Kingston to be reliable and last. Some cheap one's do lose data.

A common scam is to hack the firmware of an e.g. 4GB stick to report capacity to the operating system as e.g. 64GB, so it initially seems to be fine when you use it, until you overfill it and it corrupts. Not all unbranded sticks do this of course, but a trusted brand from a trusted source definitely won't.0

when it comes to USB sticks your motto should be "if every stick I own this moment failed simultaneously I wouldn't care one iota"
ie never use them to store something you don't have a backup of on something that is not a usb stick, or something that you don't care if you lose1 -
You can now get 1tb micro sd cards , you could never use that for backing up data you would lose it far far too easily!1
