Motability handback with outstanding warranty work

We will of course be picking this up with Motability and the dealer too, but just wondered if anyone had any experience of handing over a car as part of the 3 year change where the "old" car has remaining warranty work outstanding?  Basically something has failed on our current Motability car, we're due to swap in 2 weeks, and the part needed to fix the issue on the old car is on a 2 month lead time from the manufacturer so there is no hope of getting the work done before the scheduled changeover date.  The new car has arrived with the new dealer and they're obviously interested in getting the "sale" finished. 

I'd expect we can can just hand back and then Motability sort out the warranty work, and I'm making Motability aware of this situation at the moment so it won't just be a surprise on handover day.

Any experiences of something similar?

No experience but I would be surprised if mobability will take car back until the outstanding issue is rectified.
