Gas Safety Unsolicited Visit
in the last months or so few gas engineers visited my properties saying I have an appointment booked to change my gas meter as it is old.
They usually leave the leaflet below I am not at home, but few times happened also when I am at home and I refuse for them to carry the work
There is no other letter that I received beforehand explaining why a change is needed and I do not know if this is legit. Looks like uncorrelated to my energy provider. I searched online and in the forum and I cannot find any information, except that nationalgrid is a private company that operates in the south west.
Any suggestion or clarification is welcomed

On the basis of that it appears entirely legitimate, the phone numbers and email check out, why not call them?0

meters have to be changed from time to time a they are only certified for a certain period.
It is likely that the meter is due to be replaced - why not just let them do it?0 -

That would depend on whether they were home or not when the gas explosion happened...dunstonh said:There is no other letter that I received beforehand explaining why a change is needed and I do not know if this is legit. If there was a gas explosion, you would probably be the first person to say why hadn't it been checked.0 -

Under The Gas and Electricity Acts, energy suppliers can apply to a Court for a Warrant of Entry to carry out the necessary meter change. National Grid is undertaking the work because of your constant refusals. As harsh as this might seem, consumers do not own the meters used to record energy use.

And if your meter is outside, they can sidestep the warrant and just change the meter anyway. In the process, they will cap the supply and stick a warning notice on the meter until such time as you pay for a Gas Safe engineer to do the necessary checks.Had my gas meter replaced earlier in the year (with my consent), and for various reasons, the engineer was unable to test my boiler, so the supply was capped.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

A good reason in itself not to ignore requests to change an end-of-life meter.
